It is time for new language to encompass what we now know about hypnotic processes. Emotional reactions by the brain's limbic system happen before cognitive neocortex responses. For this reason cognitive therapies work to manage reactions which have already happened. Hypnosis takes advantage of brain reactivity to shift emotional responses in a more healthy direction, before cognitive processing even comes into play. This workshop proposes a new neurologically-based understanding of the nature of hypnosis and provides an understanding of how our processes get in on the front end to facilitate healthy emotions and behaviors.
